Zaki Gordon Institute for Independent Filmmaking

The Sedona Film Office is part of a three pronged approach to building a successful film community.  Sedona offers education at the Zaki Gordon Institute for Indepedent Filmmaking, production through the Sedona Film Office, and exhibition by the Sedona International Film Festival.

The Zaki Gordon Institute for Independent Filmmaking (ZGI) is dedicated to creating a new generation of filmmakers.  Experienced or new to the crafts, Yavapai College's film school offers a unique hands-on and mentor based program.

At its most elemental and successful, filmmaking is storytelling recorded in light and sound.  To that end, the curriculum directs students to analyze, discover, and invent stories; teaches them to tell these stories in image and sound; and assists them in creating their own short film, all within nine months.

Co-founded by acclaimed screenwriter Dan Gordon, ZGI first opened its doors in 2000.  Fully accredited as part of Yavapai College and a member of CILECT, the association of the world's major film and television schools, ZGI has earned a reputation for delivering quality education at a very reasonable price.  Founding director of ZGI, Stephan Schultze, strongly believes that keeping the tuition affordable gives students more mobility after graduation.

Each Memorial Day weekend, the annual Zaki Gordon Institute Shorts Film Festival showcases all the graduates' thesis projects to hundreds of supportive audience members.

ZGI also offers numerous filmmaking workshops throughout the year for anyone interested.  To learn more about Sedona's film school, please visit www.zgi.yc.edu.
